Toynbee Ideas

This is another of those things that will get the old grey cells churning over. Is there any reason behind this, is it a message from another world (the modern equivalent of the black monolith - well we do have financial cutbacks in everything nowadays!) or is it just a practical joke that has escalated over the years. Whatever it is, it's fun to think of all those people trying to figure out what these things are doing on their sidewalks and if there is any real purpose to their being there.

More than 100 mysterious plaques, which read
"TOyNBEE IDEAS IN KUbricK’s 2001
RESURRECT DEAD
ON PLANET JUPiTER",
have been found in dozens of cities in the US and in some South American countries.

Some have called the markers the urban equivalent of crop circles. Others say they’re just quirky underground graffiti, some done by copycats. No one has ever been caught or taken credit for this caper that dates back to at least the 1980s. Link
